In December last year we rescued five chicks that would have been sent off to slaughter at just 36 days old. We were extremely concerned for their health as they have been genetically modified to put as much weight on as possible in a short space of time. Meaning that their body weight is too heavy for their legs to manage often results in them breaking from the strain.

Since arriving we have had a very close eye on them, they have been on a low carbohydrate diet and are exercising regularly to strengthen their legs and help prevent them gaining too much weight. Our girls and boys are now reaching four months old and although their bodies are still very big they seem to be doing really well and are free from pain and thoroughly enjoying life.
