01 Mar Spring Cleaning? Do it Compassionately.
Spring is now here (at least officially if not in temperature!). For some that will mean a spring clean. Perhaps this is the perfect time to take stock of what actually is in our cleaning cupboards.
Did you know, across the European Union, more than 4,000 mice, rabbits, guinea pigs and other animals suffer and die every year in laboratory poisoning tests of household products and their ingredients? Many more animals are used elsewhere in the world.
Chemicals may be pushed down their throats, rubbed on their skin or dripped in their eyes. Pregnant animals can even be used to see what the effect is on their young.
Don’t they have to test on animals?
Well only if manufacturers want to introduce a new ingredient so that they can make a new claim, so it is a choice. There are is a growing number of companies who don’t test on animals. Some are easily available on the high street like Co-op’s own brand and Method.
If you are unsure but want to say yes to cruelty free cleaning, look for Cruelty Free International’s leaping bunny logo on packaging or search for products on their website.
