07 Jul Tommy is on the Road to Recovery
In April our four year old miniature Shetland pony Thomas became suddenly ill suffering from chronic lameness.
We were really concerned for his health and our vet advised us he would need further tests to determine the route cause of the problem. We took him to Gloucestershire Equine Hospital where he received additional medical treatment including key hole surgery from an excellent and caring team of veterinary professionals.
The results came back that Thomas has a condition called Shetland shoulder which unfortunately is incurable but could be managed with medication.
And since the diagnosis we are really pleased to say that his health has improved significantly and he is slowly on the road to recovery!
Road to Recovery
He now has a small piece of paddock to graze in and this week he began his hydrotherapy sessions which will help restore his muscle and strength without causing impact to his joints.
He was a little apprehensive to begin with but seemed to be thoroughly enjoying it once he got going. Please check out the video to see what a great job he did!
We’d also like to thank the staff at Devauden Court for the professional and friendly service given during Thomas’ hydrotherapy and for being so kind and gentle with him.
