Open Day: June 2018

JUNE 2018

Our  first open day of 2018 was an amazing day of celebration with nearly 1000 visitors all coming to see our residents on a beautiful sunny day.

Our food vendors had queues most of the day with visitors wanting to taste their scrumptious delights.  Burgers, wraps, pasties, cakes, Indian food, pastries and amazing ice cream was in abundance. It was lovely for people to sit in he garden just chilling out, eating, drinking and chatting in between visiting the animals.

There was array of stalls selling clothes, candles, giftware, soaps and merchandise.  Helen who runs Forest Therapies was giving lots of chair massages which were well received after visitors spending a few hours walking around the sanctuary.

“I had a lovely time. It felt good to be in a wonderful bubble filled with like minded people. The stall holders were as friendly as always and the beautiful animals were happy and well loved. Well done everyone!”

“My sister and I came from Kingsbridge, Devon to see you guys yesterday and we had such a lovely time, it’s just such a beautiful place to be and we will be back that’s for sure. ”

“Fantastic place. So lovely to see happy animals in their home for life. I was touched by their stories and the amazing work the charity workers have done and continue to do to make it possible. Well done to all of you. We will be back.”

Our wonderful residents loved all the fuss and attention, Roy having belly rubs, Archie having face strokes and our hens having chats.

Surprisingly Rudolph and Snowy our goats were very well behaved.

Children spent hours decorating biscuits for Dottys babies; Humphrey, Prudence, Stanley, Patch and Clover who were one year old, born at the Sanctuary last year. At 2pm we all went to their paddock and celebrated with Juliet Gellately the founder of Viva, by giving this lovely family their birthday biscuits which they gobbled up very quickly.Pink, blue, green and red icing all over their noses!

We launched our awesome limited edition Open Day T-Shirts T Shirts which were designed by Prototype Vegan – they kindly donated their time, experience and skill to help raise money for our residents through the sale of these T Shirts, which sold like hot cakes on the day.

Don’t worry they are still available to buy for a limited time online from our online shop and at our next Open Day on 12th August.

Our open day would not have been possible without the support of our volunteers who did an amazing job in the car park, hand wash, residents support, litter picking, reception, merchandise, drinks and raffle. A very big thank you!

We received £4,200 in total which is fantastic and will help us care for our residents.

Thank you to everyone for coming and your continued support.

Don’t forget our 2nd open day this year on the 12th August which will have more vendors, face painting, activities and live music.

There will also be a speach by founder Mary Frankland.

We have put together a section of pictures of the day….
