Remembering Kevin Finn

It is with great sadness that we share the loss of our beloved Kevin Finn.

Over the last week, Kevin began experiencing problems with his legs. Despite the best efforts of our veterinary team and everyone here doing everything possible for him, his condition deteriorated very quickly. Kevin was no longer able to get to his feet, and we had to make the heartbreaking decision to let him go.

The reality is that Kevin’s extraordinary size, something that made him so unforgettable to everyone who met him, also made it much harder for his body to recover. What began as a problem that many animals can overcome became something his body simply couldn’t manage.

The speed at which this happened left us all in shock. Just days before, Kevin was still the gentle giant everyone knew and loved, wandering over for a scratch, quietly standing beside us and looking at us with those kind brown eyes that seemed to melt every heart they met.

For so many visitors, volunteers and supporters, Kevin was one of the animals they remembered most. For those of us lucky enough to know him every day, he was so much more than that. He was gentle, affectionate, endlessly curious and always happy to spend time with the people he trusted.

Over the past few days we have been overwhelmed by the thousands of messages, cards and tributes you have shared. Reading your memories of Kevin has been both comforting and incredibly moving. Thank you for holding him, and all of us, in your thoughts during such a difficult time.

Although Kevin’s time with us has come to an end, the love he gave and the memories he leaves behind will stay with us forever. We know that so many of you will miss him just as much as we will.

Thank you for loving Kevin Finn.

With gratitude,
